Before We Grow, We Ask

Every significant initiative, partnership, or investment is evaluated through five guiding questions:

  • Does this strengthen the foundation?

  • Does this deepen long-term capacity?

  • Will this create measurable and lasting impact?

  • Does this encourage stewardship and opportunity?

  • Will this reduce long-term dependency while increasing community resilience?

If the answer is no, we take the time to rethink the approach.

Responsible Stewardship

We believe every donation, volunteer hour, grant, and community partnership deserves thoughtful stewardship.

Rather than pursuing growth for growth's sake, we focus on building sustainable programs, strengthening infrastructure, measuring meaningful outcomes, and ensuring today's investments create opportunities for future generations.

We believe accountability is demonstrated not only by what we accomplish, but by how responsibly we accomplish it.

Little Sprouts works alongside local government, housing communities, educators, businesses, nonprofit organizations, faith communities, volunteers, and community leaders to strengthen food security throughout Wayne County.

Our programs continue to evolve through listening, collaboration, and shared responsibility for the well-being of our neighbors.

Our Story

Little Sprouts Nutrition & Enrichment Program, Inc.

Founded in 2025 — Goldsboro, North Carolina

Little Sprouts Nutrition & Enrichment Program, Inc. was founded in 2025 after attending a local nonprofit council meeting focused on preparing for the upcoming summer months. During that discussion, we learned many children who rely on school meal programs would soon lose access to regular, nutritious meals once school was out.

That moment revealed a challenge facing communities across the country. Millions of children depend on school breakfast and lunch programs during the academic year, yet many families struggle to fill that gap during school breaks. According to the USDA, millions of children participate in free and reduced-price meal programs — but summer meal participation drops significantly, leaving many children without consistent access to nutritious food.

Little Sprouts was created to help bridge that gap.

What began as a response to summer hunger has grown into a broader mission to strengthen food security, improve nutrition, and build community resilience. Through nutritious meal distribution, nutrition education, youth engagement, and community partnerships, we are working to ensure that every child has access to healthy food while helping families develop the knowledge and resources to create lasting food security.

Today, our flagship initiative — Block-Grown Impact 360™ — expands that vision beyond meal distribution by connecting children and families with nutrition education, gardening, community partnerships, and youth-led opportunities that promote long-term self-sufficiency.

In Our First Year of Service, Little Sprouts Has:

  • Served 1,950 meals through seasonal nutrition initiatives.

  • Prepared and distributed 300 summer lunches for children during the 2026 United Way Day of Action.

  • Mobilized 20 community volunteers, including City of Goldsboro employees and United Way volunteers.

  • Packed more than 1,500 food items to support local children and families.

  • Established collaborative partnerships with the Housing Authority of the City of Goldsboro, United Way of Wayne County, local businesses, and community organizations.

We believe that addressing hunger is only the beginning. By investing in children, families, and communities today, we are helping grow healthier, more resilient communities for tomorrow.
